      • India Becomes World’s Most Populous Country

The latest United Nations report confirms that India has officially overtaken China as the world’s most populous country, with a projected population exceeding 1.43 billion as of January 2024.

According to the latest United Nations report, India has officially surpassed China to become the world’s most populous country, with an estimated population of over 1.43 billion people as of January 2024. This demographic milestone represents both opportunities and challenges for the South Asian nation.

India’s young and dynamic population is viewed as a key driver of economic growth. Over 65% of the population is under the age of 35, providing a massive workforce that can fuel industries, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The growing domestic market also makes India an attractive destination for global investors seeking to capitalize on its burgeoning middle class.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the population milestone during a public speech, stating, "India’s strength lies in its people. With the right policies and investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, we can turn this demographic challenge into a demographic dividend."

However, challenges remain. Rapid urbanization has put immense pressure on housing, transportation, and public services in major cities. Additionally, India faces a growing need to create millions of jobs annually to keep up with its expanding workforce. Climate change, resource scarcity, and regional disparities in development further complicate the situation.

To address these issues, the government has launched several initiatives. The Skill India Mission aims to train over 400 million people in vocational skills by 2030, while programs like Digital India and Startup India seek to create opportunities in the technology and innovation sectors. Additionally, infrastructure projects, such as new metro systems and high-speed rail corridors, are being prioritized to improve urban living conditions.

Experts believe that India’s demographic transition could have a significant impact on the global economy. With a young, tech-savvy population and a rapidly growing economy, India is poised to become one of the most influential players on the world stage in the coming decades.
